'One True Loves', by Taylor Jenkins Reid
This book is beyond words. It's beyond everything. One True Loves is about finding your true self, about loving yourself as much as you'd love another person. It is about healing. It's so emotional, and the descriptions are so beautifully written— the way the author takes your heart and shatters it in front of you like it were made of glass,... I just can't explain how much this book made me feel. It's a little embarrassing to say that I've cried almost every page of this book? Because I did. One True Loves shows us the importance of yourself, of being yourself only for yourself, not for to please anyone else. Just you. I've felt an instant connection with the main character, Emma Blair. She loves books, and writes. She is strong, but she feels so vulnerable when she has no one to hold on to. I would think it is a flaw: not be able to live without a person. But in this case, she can, even if she thinks she can't do it. She is capable of living without that person, and she is capable of giving herself the permission to love again. When her husband, Jesse, died, Emma felt lost. Her life changed dramatically. She was no longer the adventurer, the young woman in her 20s who was constantly traveling with the love of her life. Now she was mourning. So slowly and with her family's help, she starts to live again, to feel again. She goes back to her city, to her parents and sister, to her family's bookstore, which she hated when she was a teenager. Right then, after years of losing hope of Jesse's return, who had been declared being dead, she let herself to move on with someone else: Sam, a man who came back to her life. Everything changes again when suddenly Emma receives a call. It's Jesse. Jesse's alive and he's determined to continue their marriage. But she is confused. More confused than ever. Who she loves most? Who are her one true love? Can she love two people at the same time? Who is she? Who is she now? You should read this book. You need to meet Emma, Jesse, and Sam, and Marie and the girls and Mike, and Emma's parents, and Olive. You do need meet every character of this book. You need this story. This is a story of learning to love yourself, of being capable of healing. |
